Mothers in Prison

"Mothers in Prison" looks at the impact of incarceration on motherhood. Mothers confined in jails and prisons encounter numerous difficulties, including limited access to a nutritious diet and adequate prenatal care during pregnancy, childbirth while shackled, the threat of losing permanent custody of their children, and limited opportunities for visitation with them. Female prisoners in Pennsylvania receive assistance and support in confronting these issues from organizations like the MoMobile of the Maternity Care Coalition, the Women's Law Project, the Pennsylvania Prison Society, and Community Legal Services of Philadelphia.
