It’s been almost a year since you have heard from us…and what a whirlwind year it has been! These past nearly eight years we have closed our weekly prayer call with a benediction from Ephesians 3:20-21:
“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
And these last 18 months has proven the “more abundantly than all that we ask or think” part, for sure! As you know, in 2017 we saw four (4) babies rescued from the foster care system--can we just pause here to thank God and give Him glory!--two we placed withSafe Families For Children, and the other two we were able to keep at Pharaoh’s Daughter. Our first “mom” joined us at Pharaoh’s Daughter last November 2017; the other mother came to PD in June 2018.
Having gone through the entire process, we now feel better equipped to assess the needs of the women before and after coming to our program, and we also recognize the necessity to partner with other organizations who are already delivering what we want to offer to our women.
Another critical thing we’ve learned is that there are dangers lurking all around these women the moment they are released, ready to steal, kill, and destroy them; it’s as if they have a neon sign on their foreheads exposing their vulnerability; so mentors for each of these women are a MUST!
Several financial blessings occurred over the last year: a tremendously successful 2017 “Giving Tuesday,” with generous donations totaling over $5,000, and an equally successful community yard sale in the spring at Chatham Community Church, which raised $3,000. In late summer Pharaoh’s Daughter was selected as the beneficiary non-profit for Thrift2Gift’s annual Dollar Days sale, and from that effort we were gifted $7,000! Pharaoh’s Daughter attended many other events and speaking engagements in 2018; some of you joined us once or twice at Merritt’s in Chapel Hill for a delicious, world-famous BLT and benefit worship concert…and this past week someone even donated a car to PD!
And the crowning glory of 2018 is that God provided a home for Pharaoh’s Daughter! Our new location is a short 10 minutes from the prison, and right in the heart of Raleigh, where so many other wonderful programs and opportunities for our women can be found. We live near a bus line, just minutes from Wake Tech, in a close-knit cul-de-sac, hedged on both sides by wonderful neighbors: a pastor and his (retired parole officer) wife on the one side; and on the other, a full-of-joy previously incarcerated man who runs another local non-profit (http://www.bridgethegapmission.org) and his wife, who is quickly becoming my new best friend!
God is certainly supplying every need we have “more abundantly than all that we ask or think” and as we get ready to rescue more babies and their mothers in 2019, we’d like to invite you to join us again this year on this amazing journey. There is a way to be involved that will fit your lifestyle and budget, if you feel God tugging at your heart strings. Consider donating a year-end gift to Pharaoh's Daughter, or continue reading to see where else you can plug in.
We’re wrapping up this year with hearts full of gratitude; for God and for all of the people He has brought across our path. He has so much more in store for us all in 2019, and I look with anticipation to another year in His service!
Blessings to you and yours this Christmas and in the New Year!
