We are just so pleased to share with you our joy in recently having had the opportunity to go "On Mission" earlier this month. While we wait to take on the full 24/7/365 care of the new babies born to women in prison and the moms once they are released, Pharaoh's Daughter has been keeping up with our friends who are being released from prison and doing all we can to ensure their successful transition. Last month, our friend Christiana came home and worried about how she would get to the jobs God was lining up for her after her borrowed vehicle had to be returned. I told her to commit her worries to her heavenly Father—who loves all of His children and delights to take care of our needs—and wait to see what He had in store for her. We began praying for this specific need.
God reminded me that I still owned a car that had been donated to serve as a “reentry” vehicle when Abigail was first released. However, since then it had sat, undriven, and needed several major repairs…none the less, I felt God was going to use that car again. I reached out to my mechanic, Wes Lane of Lane’s Auto-ASE Certified Auto Care in Cary, and told him the situation. I was encouraged by his enthusiasm to join in the effort as he agreed to donate much of the work needed on the Toyota. Wonderful as that was, I still needed to come up with the parts. As I shared with my friends and church family this need, folks streamed in, not wanting to miss the opportunity to help with this mission. I was overwhelmed with joy! God was showing up and also letting His kids have some fun with it, too.
The words of our forefather, James, comes to mind in the 2nd chapter of his renowned inclusion to the Bible: 14 My friends, what good is it for one of you to say that you have faith if your actions do not prove it? Can that faith save you? 15 Suppose there are brothers or sisters who need clothes and don't have enough to eat. 16 What good is there in your saying to them, “God bless you! Keep warm and eat well!”—if you don't give them the necessities of life? 17 So it is with faith: if it is alone and includes no actions, then it is dead.
On Monday, December 21, Pharaoh’s Daughter presented a beautiful, clean, well-running Toyota Camry to our friend in need. I think we were all overwhelmed with joy!
“I cannot aptly express what a blessing it is to get behind the wheel and know that the car I am driving is totally my own. Never in a million years would I have expected the Lord to move in the way He has and to show His love for me through Susan and so many others. Re-entering society after five years in prison has been much harder than I ever anticipated, but the support and encouragement that has been demonstrated toward me has truly been astounding, and the gift of my very own car has given me a sense of confidence and independence that I did not have before. My heart is filled with gratitude for the amazing gift of ‘Dorothy,’ as I have named the Camry!” --Christiana
Here it is the end of the year when many folks think about end-of-year giving. Stories like this one warm our hearts and make us feel good about where our money is going and the good that it is doing in the world. This beautiful Pharaoh‘s Daughter car story was born out of a joint effort of so many—those who happened to be in my path when I shared the urgent need gave generously to the cause; however, I cannot leave out those who already contribute monthly OR have with one-time gifts to Pharaoh’s Daughter. It is from this resource that we were able to cover all the costs associated with getting a car on the road, so I want to thank ALL those who made this dream possible, by your continued gifts to Pharaoh’s Daughter!
Friends, I hope you have a very happy New Year...look for the good that God will do in 2016, in your own life and in the lives all around you! "Aslan is on the move!"
